Remembering People As They Are
Regarding an earlier post, on how we truly live and how we are remembered, I must make an entry on an excellent movie that I watched last night. It's called The Final Cut, with Robin Williams (who truly has shown to be a terrific actor with tremendous range).
It's set in the future, though not the typical future portrayed with flying cars and flamboyant clothing. The major technological advance consists of a memory chip put into place while still in the womb. It records everything you see and hear for all of your life, for the sole purpose of playing out your life like a movie for your decendents to play after your death. The chip's memory card was taken to a "Cutter", who was like the director, that would take out all of the bad, make the life into a beautiful film and make the person's life one of perfection.
Most cutters would pass on the lives of the truly dirty souls, but Robin Williams character would gladly accept the jobs and turn the rapists, wife beaters, child abusers and murderers into saints, to show people only the good.
He compared himself to the Sin Eaters of legend and thought what he was doing was for the greater good....
I don't want to ruin the movie, just point out that it's a terrific story that backs up my theory that it is for the better good to remember people as they truly exhisted instead of turning them into something they never really were. It is a "must see" film, in my opinion, and thus I advise you all to rent it.
